We are completely done with the desk and chair for The Western Design Conference. “Spirit of the Tetons”, is ready for the judges, and the public. It really turned out fantastic. We are almost done with the piece for the Western Design Conference. It really looks amazing. All the elements came together beautifully. The artistic wood carving, bead work, and furniture design are all blending nicely.
Hones Design Studio has been participating in the Western Design Conference since 2001. After a lifetime of wood working, mostly building cabinets in the business his grandfather started, Al needed a change. He began doing wood carving in 1998 as a more artistic outlet. In 2000, Al read an article in Cowboys and Indians about the Western Design Conference. He submitted an application and photo’s of work he had done, and was accepted into the show in 2001. He then built the “Majestic Moose bar”. That piece won The People Choice award, and Al’s place in the WDC was confirmed. Continue reading →
We are going back to the Western Design Conference this year, and Al and I are collaborating on a piece. He is doing the building and carving, and I will do some bead work on it. It’s a small desk, made from juniper and cherry. Al is following the natural lines of the juniper, so it’s going to be very unique.
